RE: THUGGERY AROUND TUDUN WADA GUSAU VICINITY THAT CAUSED THE LIFE OF POOR IBRAHIM AMINU ZURMI (Hospital number: 955946)

The attention of the management of the Federal Medical Center, Gusau Zamfara state was drawn to an unfortunate and malicious report that went viral on social media under the above caption.
It is indeed unfortunate that the precious life of a young man of 22 years was lost in the incident even though hospital staff battled to save it. The story was not only untrue but intended to damage the image and reputation of the hospital.

The facts are as follows:
On that fateful Friday, October 4th 2019 the victim, Ibrahim Aminu Zurmi was brought into the accident and emergency unit by 1:36pm on account of multiple stab injuries to the left lower limbs, back and abdomen with bowel evisceration which had happened about an hour earlier.
The patient presented to the A&E in shock and restless. Fluid resuscitation with two wide bore cannulars with normal saline was commenced immediately, along with intravenous analgesia within 4 minutes of patient’s arrival. He Was immediately taken to A&E Theater where the wounds were attended to. The bleeding points were pressure packed with gauze and crepe bandage to control bleeding. The bleeding vessels of the thigh were ligated. The eviscerated bowel was irrigated and packed with saline soaked gauze and crepe bandage.
At this point causality officer himself rushed to the haematology laboratory and got I unit of grouped but uncrossed matched whole blood which was commenced on the patient.
Samples of blood were taken at this point and sent to the laboratory for PVC, S/E/U/Cr, grouping and cross-matching of further 3 units of blood.
With resuscitation ongoing, the patient was booked for an emergency exploratory laparatomy. This all happened by 2:09pm, which is approximately 33 minutes of arrival of the patient to the A&E at which no single payment was made on behalf of the patient.
It will be mischievous therefore, to allege that Late Ibrahim Aminu Zurmi was not attended to and his life was lost as a result of hospital negligence while waiting for service payment or police report.
The late Aminu’ s father, Alh. Moh’d Wada Zurmi has confirmed positive effort made by doctors in A&E to save the of the patient.
Though the patient was finally lost at 4:50pm, it will not be immodest to say that; the team that attended to him did all that was possible to save his life. We hope this will relay the facts and put the lie to the claims and allegations that he died out of negligence or incompetence.
May almighty Allah (SWA) grant the soul of Ibrahim Aminu Zurmi eternal rest.
